Update on progress

I continue to explore various tools through this class and am enjoying getting familiar with various social media tools, and concepts behind their usage. I enjoyed writing my paper this week that compared and contrasted lurking and participating on the internet. I chose to look at the aviation industry, as I have some familiarity with it. The difference between these experiences was very clear, and I found that I prefer to lurk rather than participate as that is where my comfort normally lies when personally using social media. I usually do not participate unless it is related specifically to work.

I am excited to see what we will be learning next module!

Comments

  1. I completely relate with preferring to lurk! I often dislike commenting or posting publicly due to the lack of personal connection vs. in person interactions. Your paper sounds interesting, especially with the inclusion of aviation!

  3. I'm with you as my comfort zone is lurking, but I do get feisty when I want to share something that I am passionate about. For my paper I chose a FB page that has been very challenging to avoid participating and the one that I choose to participate in has been a struggle. I can’t wait to switch and actually participate on a recreational, not work related, FB page. But I have to say that this class has pushed me outside of my comfort zone as I have been posting more in my private groups, scheduling and sharing events, etc. I’ve been stalked in the past, so being expose on social media has been most uncomfortable. I feel safer in private groups.
